KUET students to be expelled for life for those involved in politics

Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) has decided to expel those involved in student politics for life and cancel their studentship. The decision was finalized at the 93rd emergency meeting of the syndicate held virtually on Wednesday (February 19).

Shaheduzzaman Sheikh, Public Relations Officer (additional duty) of the university, confirmed the matter. He said a total of five important decisions have been taken by the emergency syndicate in the wake of last Tuesday’s clash.

The decisions include:

• The order banning political activities issued earlier will remain in force. That is, the involvement of the students of this university with all types of political organizations was banned, it will be strictly followed.

According to section 44 (5) of the Khulna University of Engineering and Technology Act 2003, all teachers, officers and employees of the university are banned from getting involved in the activities of all types of political organizations.

• Necessary steps should be taken against the violators of this law, including dismissal as per the provisions of the university.

In the case of students involved in politics, life expulsion and cancellation of studentship will be subject to investigation.

The university administration will take necessary action, including cases, against the outsiders involved in the attack. At the same time, students directly involved will be temporarily expelled from the university.

Shaheduzzaman Sheikh said the syndicate meeting decided to form a four-member committee for a thorough investigation, including finding out the real culprits. The committee will submit its report within three working days. The committee will be presided over by Professor Dr. M. Golam Mostafa of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the university. Md. A. Hashem, Member Secretary, Assistant Director (Student Welfare) Shah Muhammad Azmat Ullah. The other members of the committee are Provost of Shaheed Smriti Hall Prof Dr Mohammad Abu Yousuf and Prof Dr Abu Zakir Morshed of Civil Engineering department.

He said the administration has decided to take necessary measures under the supervision of Khulna Divisional Commissioner for the security of the campus.

“The university authorities will bear the medical expenses of the students injured in the attack. ‘
